WILLIAMS, THE JUICIEST
Williams’s are an ancient pear variety of English origin, chosen and brought to Italy at the end of ‘700s and mainly widespread in the plains of the Po.
The perfect sugary pear for syrups. Fresh and incredibly juicy, Williams is perfect for fresh consumption, its flesh is firm and compact, making it particularly suitable for processing into canned fruit, juices, brandy, fruit salads, pastries and jams.
Harvest: During the 2nd week of August.
Available: From the 2nd week of August till end of January.
ABATE FETEL, THE QUEEN
Abate Fetel were discovered in France in the mid 1800s. By the end of World War II these particular pears had spread to Italy, especially to the Emilia Romagna region. It is “the most Italian pear of all”, Italy is in fact the largest producer in the world of Abate Fetel pears.
Harvest: 1st and 2nd decade of September.
Available: From the 2nd week of September till end of May.
CARMEN, THE SUMMER PEAR
Bred in Italy by crossing two ancient varieties (Guyot and June’s beauty), its distribution began rather recently. Compact and sweet, tasty and juicy, it is perfect for refreshing under the summer sun.
Harvest: Last decade of July.
Available: Since the last ten days of July till mid-October.
MAX RED BARTLETT, THE FRAGRANT
Better known as the “Red Williams”, Max Red Bartlett is the sibling of the Williams, which it derives from, but easily distinguishes itself through the red coloured streak extensively covering its skin.
Harvest: During the 2nd week of August.
Available: From the 2nd week of August till end of January.
KAISER, THE AROMATIC
Found in France in the early nineteenth century and currently grown mainly in Italy, the USA and South Africa. Its firm flesh makes it the best pear for use in the kitchen.
Harvest: During the 3rd week of August and the 1st week of September.
Available: 2nd week of September till the end of April.
DECANA, THE MELTING ONE
Found in France in the early nineteenth century, today it is grown mainly in Italy and the Netherlands. Decana is the melting pear. It really melts in your mouth when its flesh is ripe.
Harvest: Last decade of September.
Available: Since the last ten days of July till April.
CONFERENCE, THE RUSTIC PEAR
Originating in England and brought to Italy in the late nineteenth century – mostly grown in the Po valley – after the second World War onwards. Conference is the most rustic pear with a skin texture that is quite resistant to handling.
Harvest: Last decade of September.
Available: From the 3rd decade of August till the end of May
FALSTAFF, THE IRRESISTIBLE RED PEAR
Bred in Italy by crossing two older pear breeds, the Abate Fetel and the Cascade. The Falstaff’s distribution is still quite limited and confined to a few tens of hectares all situated in Emilia Romagna.
Harvest: During the 4th week and the 1st week of September.
Available: From 3rd week of September till the end of April. NB: limited production.
SANTA MARIA, THE FRESH ONE
Bred in 1951 by crossing Williams and Coscia, it is cultivated mainly in Emilia Romagna, which is the ideal environment for growing it. Santa Maria trees are strong, lush and usually produce a good amount of delicious and crispy fruits, rich in nutritional elements.
Harvest: Since the end of July and the beginning of August.
Available: Since the second half of August till January.

Our pears are distributed through the marketing channels of Alegra Sca, Opera Sca, Apo Conerpo sca and directly by the Ital-Frutta Cooperative Society itself.
